Compassionate Care ALS, also known as CCALS, is a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of supporting those who are coping with ALS, a chronic nervous system disease that causes muscle weakness. Founder Gordon T. Heald recognized the intense amount of care that is required for those with ALS, and wanted to create an organization that could help ALS patients, their families, their caregivers, and health professionals.

Cataldo Custom Builders gladly partnered together with CCALS in constructing a brand new Education & Retreat Center, located in Falmouth, in support of locals coping with ALS. “It’s a place [where] families we work with [can] get away out of the space [they’re] living in on a daily basis. It’s my intention not to charge them. Just come,” says Founder of CCALS, Ron Hoffman. Similar organizations will be able to come for workshops and weekend retreats. He goes on to say, “To my knowledge, it’s the only place in the country like it.” It’s a free place to stay, to learn, or to get away and relax for a while.

Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? We thought so too! Mid-Cape supplied materials for the project, because we believe in community support and helping to provide for those in need. We are excited to see what this retreat center adds to the Cape and the community of locals coping with ALS. To donate to this organization and its worthwhile cause, click here.

Construction of CCALS’ ALS Education & Retreat Center was recently completed this past Spring. The dinner celebration took place in May and representatives from many local organizations attended. Representatives from Mid-Cape attended as well, including President Jack Stevenson.

We encourage you to join us in support of Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) by donating, or even just visiting their website here and taking a moment to read their story.
