It is indeed true that “less is more,” especially when it comes to changing up your home’s design. Sometimes, the seemingly insignificant changes can make the most difference. One of the more common Kitchen & Bath trends right now is adding patterned, colored tile. Although this is not a new concept, its popularity is growing and it has become a significant trend.

At Mid-Cape, we offer a wide variety of styles from an array of reliable brands such as American Olean, Ferrazzoli, Florida Tile, Crossville, and Marazzi. Each brand offers tile of many colors, textures, and materials. Here at Mid-Cape, we have many of these varieties on display in our showrooms in South Dennis, Orleans, Martha’s Vineyard, and soon Middleboro.

Backsplashes

The concept of a backsplash originated from a need for wall protection from splatters of water, grease, etc. resulting from kitchen activities. Tile is a material that is more commonly used in backsplashes. It is also common for backsplashes to be made of the same material as the countertops. This is shown below in two photos taken of a display in our Orleans Kitchen Showroom.

When choosing a backsplash, it is also a common design to install one that complements, or even contrasts, the countertops. Rather than going the predictable route by choosing a similar material or color as the countertops, some move in the opposite direction by installing a backsplash that stands out from the rest of the kitchen. This is shown in a display from the South Dennis Kitchen Showroom, as pictured below. Some homeowners prefer intricacies over simplicity, which can truly add a pop of personality to any kitchen.

Consider choosing one of the following materials to use for your backsplash: textured tile, subway tile, ceramic and glass tile, river rock stone, herringbone, repurposed plywood (e.g. shiplap), recycled glass, marble, or colorful glass tile. These are all quality, durable ingredients from which to choose so you can lay out the recipe for your ideal kitchen.

What’s Trending?

Backsplashes are rapidly gaining popularity and the current trends are taking kitchen and bath design to the next level. There are so many styles to take into consideration. Firstly, some homeowners have taken to creating a backsplash that covers the entire wall of the kitchen or bathroom, all the way to the ceiling. This is displayed below in the photo of yet another gorgeous kitchen in our Orleans Kitchen Showroom.

Secondly, subway tiles have been among the most popular backsplash materials for quite some time now. This choice of material is ideal, because it can be easily maintained, carries the look of a classic industrial kitchen while also creating a great focal point, and makes a room appear more spacious. See the photos below for some subway tile backsplash inspiration!

Or…don’t run with the crowd! Go with a backsplash that turns heads and gets people talking. Add a pinch of pattern with a touch of trendy into your kitchen or bathroom. We love these kitchens on display in our showrooms because of the unique beauty of each of the patterns.

This is on display in the South Dennis Kitchen Showroom. Notice how the tile is etched into a wave-like pattern, creating the perfect Cape Cod-inspired backsplash while still maintaining the neutral feel of the color scheme.

For an even less traditional backsplash look, consider an eye-popping, two-dimensional pattern such as this one on display in the Orleans Kitchen Showroom.

For another trendy backsplash material, consider re-purposed wood or even faux wood. Go with this if you are thinking of adding a rustic look to your kitchen or bathroom. See this beautiful wood backsplash from the Orleans Kitchen Showroom.
