PRESSURE TREATED
Pressure treated railing is impregnated with preservative chemicals under high pressure to make it resistant to rot, decay and insects. It is typically Southern Yellow Pine, but could also be several other species.

- Most pressure treated (PT) railing is milled from Southern Yellow Pine
- Chemically treated to resist rot, fungus and wood-boring bugs
- Balusters are available in square and turned spindles, and metal balusters can also be used
CONSIDERATIONS
- Not very dimensionally stable
- Has a tendency to crack, split and warp if not maintained correctly
- Routine maintenance is necessary to prolong the life and look of the deck
CEDAR
Western Red Cedar railing systems and accessories utilize premium clear kiln dried Western Red Cedar and are produced in a wide variety of styles and profiles designed to fit virtually any house and deck design.

- Must be low-pressure cleaned every year to maintain natural cedar color
- Clear water-repellent wood preservative should be applied yearly
