The laughter and chatter of children and parents could be heard over at Johnny A. Kelley Recreation Area in South Dennis on Saturday, August 17th. The sun lit up many excited faces of kids from all around the Cape as they envisioned building their dream home out of LEGOs. This is the 6th Annual Children’s LEGO Home-Building Competition put on by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.
Underneath the pavilion at Johnny Kelley Park, creative gleams could be seen in the eyes of children ranging from ages five to twelve as they sat side-by-side along wooden tables piecing their LEGO homes together. The clinks and clatters of colorful LEGO pieces could be heard in tandem with their joyful, excited chatter. Meanwhile, parents interacted pleasantly with one another, faced off in a few competitive games of corn hole, and enjoyed a delicious lunch from the Mom & Pops Burgers food truck.
Once time was up and children had completed their LEGO creations, judges from HBRACC went around to all the stations to choose a First, Second, and Third Place winner from each of the two age categories: 5-8 years and 9-12 years.
