Cape Cod Community College hosts a ‘Summer of Science’ program with Construction Exploration Week for kids in their early teen years. This program teaches them about construction skills, technique, safety, tool use, and more! Pupils receive personal, hands-on lessons regarding various construction skills and how to combine these together to create something beautiful, for instance: building a dog house, siding and shingling it. Through these lessons and classes, kids don’t just build physical objects, but also self-confidence and crucial knowledge.

Mid-Cape’s Roofing and Siding Specialist Gordon Correira, who’s worked in construction for decades, joined the kids to teach a special workshop in which they built their very own birdhouses.

The kids were excited about their Mid-Cape swag and eager to learn! Thank you to Mary Conklin, their program instructor, for allowing Mid-Cape to have a part in guiding these young people! We are so honored to have been able to teach them, as well as provide hammers and tool belts so they could have the most hands-on learning experience possible. Construction Exploration Week was supported by numerous community partners, led by the Home Builders & Remodelers’ Association of Cape Cod, of which Mid-Cape is proud to be a part.

Mid-Cape has been a local business here on the Cape for almost 125 years and that is because we have always invested in the youth. We will continue to do so and look forward to seeing the success of this generation’s upcoming builders. That is what ‘Experience that Builds’ is all about.
